AUDIT DOWNGRADED to ASSESSMENT

UPDATE 9/15/08 - CDM is selection committee choice for audit.

UPDATE 8/28/08  - The Selection Committee has forwarded their recommendation to the Director. However, the selection will remain secret until 9/15/08, two months after submittal.

UPDATE 8/4/08  - The Liaison Board has approved a plan to reduce the scope of the assessment by removing all financial oversight - may request the State Auditors Office to investigate Regional System finances.

After several years of complaints of Regional System financial misconduct, the Board of County Commissioners requested a financial audit of the Spokane Regional Solid Waste System. The Commissioners had recently agreed to a general scope of work for such an audit, and the information was forwarded to the City of Spokane for implementation. The Mayor's hand picked Director of the Regional System was chosen to coordinate the RFP process. The Coordinator has since called the term "audit" unfortunate, and has instructed bidders for the RFP to consider the process an "assessment", and not to look to assign blame.
